Over and Under the Dunes
The Milky Way rises over the Bruneau Sand Dunes in Southern Idaho, mirrored in the lake below.
Photo Story
This is Episode 1. The first photo on my journey to create a series of images that capture the night sky and the beginning of an adventure that has taken me thousands of miles across the US this year.
On this night, I setup my camera on the edge of the large lake at Bruneau Sand Dunes and was mesmerized by the sight of the stars glistening in the water below the shadowed dunes. I had come prepared with my fancy star tracker and wide lens, to capture a dual image of the sky blended with the foreground, but this particular image worked best as a single shot with just carefully exposed at 20-seconds. That doesn’t happen for me very often, so it’s a nice, simple image, technically.
