The Outdoor Florist: Her Story, Captured Naturally

Melissa Frazier runs The Outdoor Florist, a business she's built at Storybook Farm in the Sycamore Overlay neighborhood, where she grows cut flowers and keeps goats and chickens. Over the past 16 years she has worked alongside her garden to create a sustainable ecosystem that requires no input of any type of outside fertilizers or pest control. She has always been a firm believer in not introducing any types of poisons into her garden, and she now teaches that philosophy through garden coaching and a full roster of classes: gardening, writing and art, meditation, sound baths, edible flowers, qigong, and flower essences. She also sells cut flowers and hosts events on the property. Visitors regularly tell her how at peace they feel the moment they step into her garden. For the session, we spent an hour capturing natural activities throughout Storybook Farm, timed to the light and to her schedule. We used the location and the elements to showcase her work and the way she works, including the activities of cutting flowers, tending the goats and the blackberry bushes, leaning on those natural, everyday activities rather than unnatural poses and guiding her through it all in a no-pressure environment. A mix of natural light and flash kept the right natural atmosphere. Melissa and The Outdoor Florist brand now have 30 high-resolution, print-and-social-ready images that tell the brand's story, naturally, the way she lives it.
